Today, I am sharing one of my favorite projects so far, my budget powder room update.
Our home had builder grade everything when we moved here just over two years ago.
This is what my powder room looked like when we moved in. These are the only pictures I have to remember the old bathroom by, and that’s probably for the best.

We use this half bath on the first floor frequently, but I also knew I needed to stay on a budget.
We moved earlier in the year and at the time my younger daughter was on the way so sticking to the price point was definitely important.
The design inspiration for this powder room update on a budget came from the 2021 color of the year, Aegean Teal by Benjamin Moore.
The first floor of my house is all the same neutral greige color. I knew this half bath would be the room with a pop of color.
The Vanity
My initial thoughts were to refinish the built in vanity, sand the cabinets, and paint it as a money saver.
Ultimately, I decided that the whole builder grade look needed to go during this budget powder room update.
Check out my post, Easy Master Bath Updates on a Budget, where I did keep the original vanity in that project.
I tortured myself long and hard about choosing a vanity for this space. Deep down, I always want a designer look, but I knew I also wanted practicality and needed storage.

I think I met somewhere in the middle with this awesome vanity from Wayfair. The off white color of this vanity offers a more casual look and the storage is great.
The drawers are perfect for extra towels or other toiletries. I like having more than just the under the cabinet space that is usually taken up by the plumbing.
Wallpaper
I had a hard time choosing the wallpaper. I ordered it online after the room was already painted Aegean Teal.

I wasn’t sure how the color in the wallpaper and paint color were going to look next to one another (oops, painting before buying was not my best move), but it worked out great! Maybe not just luck?
The peel and stick application of the wallpaper is a little scary (as you really only have one try to get it right) but totally worth it!
This wallpaper was such a time saver without much hassle. I would highly recommend as a great way to add a statement wall without a major project.
Mirror
The mirror in this half bath is actually a mirror I have owned since my last two moves. This mirror is originally a budget item from IKEA.

I sometimes (okay, maybe often) have trouble parting with decor items because I think I may need them again and voila here we are!
This mirror originally had a silver border, but a little black spray paint never hurt anyone.
Black Shelves
I have to admit, I can’t remember what project I bought these shelves for (guilty, again), but I finally put them to good use.
These shelves ended up fitting in perfectly for the alcove behind the toilet.

I normally am not one to buy any black, but these shelves bring an element of moody-ness to this casual design. Additionally, black creates great contrast with wood elements.
Floor Tile
When I was searching around for floor tile, I had no particular intentions in mind. I brought home a few samples, thinking I would maybe try to really create some interest with my floor choice.

In the end, I realized the right choice all along was the simple, budget choice. White tile is classic and goes great with the contrast of the teal walls.
I linked the tile I have from Lowe’s in the sources list, but this tile is generic and classic and can be found at most tile retailers.
Wrap Up
Bathrooms in particular can sometimes be scary projects to start renovation as they can get pricey and time consuming.
Don’t be afraid to come up with ideas and find decor that fits your budget to make it happen.
