DIY Hallway Bath

The final product is here with my DIY upstairs hallway bath reveal. This project was originally not high on the to do list, but a water leak was the driving force to this transformation.

Sources and links for everything in this bathroom can be found at the end of this post.

I wanted this bathroom to be casual and functional. This bathroom is for my girls, age 3 and 1. Even though they don’t use the bathroom too much now, I foresee that changing in the future…

Some of my initial plans included gray and white walls, but my husband convinced me to use some color in here, just like our half bath project downstairs. I wanted to create a calm, peaceful vibe, but also add a little character.

I love mixing decorating styles when I start new projects. Incorporating things I already own plus some new pieces is always so satisfying to me. See my post here where I discuss 5 tips to decorating with what you already have.

Board and Batten Wall

The accent wall in this bathroom is certainly the centerpiece and the inspiration for the rest of this space.

My husband was kind enough to agree to this project and I have to say it looks better than anticipated!

Since we have never done a board and batten project before, this small wall was a great place to start and is the perfect design statement for this hallway bath.

There are so many great tutorials out there and was a relatively straight forward project.

I recommend if you have been considering doing a board and batten wall, you should do it, the final product will be worth it!

Wall Color

One of my road blocks when designing this bathroom was deciding on the paint color. As much as I love the cleanliness and of straight black and white, I knew I wanted to create a softer space.

In my opinion, the color allows for a natural calm affect in this bathroom. I was looking for something with spa qualities without being white or gray.

Vanity & Mirror

Since this bathroom is so small, I wanted to maximize the space where the sink would be, which is why I decided to go for a full cabinet with a bottom drawer.

I have the bigger version of this same vanity cabinet in my half bath downstairs (yes, that is how much I liked it). You can see my budget powder room update post here.

The mirror in this bathroom is also from Wayfair. My kids like it because I can pivot the mirror down to they can easily see their own reflections.

I do think that Wayfair does an awesome job with bathroom fixtures on a budget (and great quality) and I would definitely check it out if you haven’t already. Wayfair and Target have both been great for this DIY hallway bath project.

Floor Tile

This is a fairly standard hexagon tile, I love the soft gray in here and the look of the matte finish.

I purchased this floor from Home Depot, but like I mentioned this is popular and can be found at a variety of home improvement or flooring stores.

Tub Update

The builder grade tub/ shower in this bathroom is an insert, and because it was in good condition, I did what any other person would do and bleached it and bleached it again.

Honestly, it looks pretty good and I think we were lucky in the fact that this bathroom seemed relatively unused when we bought this house.

We did do one update in the tub, which was adding white subway tile to the area between the top of the tub/shower insert and the ceiling. We did this in our master bath shower, you can see that update here in my post, and it came out great.

I love the clean look, along with the addition of the tile and the extra bonus of adding integrity to the walls in this high moisture area.

Fan

Ensuring that there is a fan in this bathroom is crucial, as it is a tiny room without any windows, ugh right?

The fan switch with an automatic timer my husband installed is one of those items you didn’t know you needed and now I probably couldn’t live without it. I definitely recommend checking it out. This particular one includes the combo light switch plate, but the fan does come separately as well.

Wall Art

I received these gorgeous silhouettes of my girls as a gift and have been struggling to find the right place for them. They are so special and wanted them to be on display somewhere with a presence.

Everything with my two girls has to be equal, does that sound familiar to anyone else with kids?

I thought designating their towel hooks with their pictures was a great way to give a little sophistication to their bathroom and finally get to put up these special pictures!

These aluminum frames are awesome and perfect for an elevated look in the bathroom. I love the thin frame and they can be easily wiped down if they get wet, which is a great feature.

Wrap Up

Even though this bathroom was not on the initial to do list, I am happy with the way it turned out. DIY project can sometimes be daunting and take motivation to start, but I promise it will be worth the effort and time.
