DIY Orange Garland

This year, for the holidays, I knew I wanted to change up my mantel in my living room. This DIY orange garland was an awesome way to add some more charm to the usual Christmas mantel decorating.

I was unsure how this project would turn out, but I have to say it is super easy and minimal supplies are needed (something I can always appreciate).

Let’s Get Started

I love that the orange compliments the Christmas greenery so well and the freshness that the dried orange garland brings to the same ol’ holiday treasures.

I also love that this project costs very little money and so fun to make this diy orange garland.

Supplies

  • 3-4 Oranges, depending on garland length
  • Twine for garland length plus some extra
  • Scissors
  • Baking sheet
  • Cutting knife
  • Skewer or yarn needle

Step 1

Slice up oranges into about a 1/4” slices and place on a baking sheet (I used foil so I don’t have more dishes to do).

Place in the oven on low heat, about 250 -300 degrees for 2.5 hours, flipping the slices once in the middle of cooking time. Slices should be drying, and becoming a little darker.

Cook longer if needed than 2.5 hours until desired dryness/ darkness and flip again if needed.

At this point, I did let mine rest and dry over night just for good measure to ensure complete dryness.

Tip I learned:

I did not flip my slices and so there are some areas darker than others.

Step 2:

Arrange the slices how you would like them on the twine and either use a skewer, like I did, to poke holes and thread the twine through the top of the oranges or thread using a yarn needle.

Repeat this process until the desired about of orange slices are on the twine.

Step 3:

Leave some extra twine on each end after the last orange slices, the amount can vary based on desired length and look.

Go ahead and hang your diy orange garland!

I would love to see and hear about how your orange garland comes out (maybe even better than mine)!
